Off-Grid Solar Water Systems
Flowing Solar designs and supplies complete solar + battery microgrid systems for farm water pumping — drain tile, irrigation, and flood control. Built for off-grid sites, or grid-tied to sell excess power back where available.
How It Works
We handle the engineering. You or your installer handle the wrench work.
Use our calculator to input your pump size, location, and runtime requirements. Get an instant rough system size recommendation.
We take your inputs and produce a complete system design, full bill of materials, and step-by-step installation instructions.
You install the solar system we provide, it includes everything you need to get the system up and running fast. Or let Holsen Solar install it for you.
Applications
Every application has different runtime patterns. Our system design accounts for all of it — off-grid or grid-tied.
Spring-heavy runtime with critical uptime windows. A failed pump means flooded fields and lost crops. Solar + battery delivers reliability when it matters most.
Summer peak demand aligns perfectly with peak solar production. Remote fields that can't justify a grid hookup are ideal candidates for a Flowing Solar microgrid.
When you need the pump to run regardless of grid status, battery backup changes the equation. Our systems are sized for your worst-case day, not your average day.
Advanced Solutions
For operations where downtime isn't an option — or where excess solar can pay for itself.
When your operation demands near 100% uptime, we pair solar + battery with a generator backup. The smart inverter monitors power levels and starts the generator automatically when solar and battery reserves run low — then shuts it down when they recover.
You get the reliability of a generator without the cost of running one around the clock.
Large pumping operations often need oversized solar arrays to compensate for reduced production in late fall, winter, and early spring. During peak months, that means excess energy with nowhere to go.
Our deployable bitcoin mining containers put that overgeneration to work — running dynamically when surplus power is available and shutting down when the pump needs it.
Have grid access? Your system can feed excess solar production back to the utility. When the pump isn't running, you're earning credits instead of wasting sunlight.
Net metering rules vary by location and utility — we'll check what's available for your site as part of the design.
Why Solar vs. Diesel
Diesel gets the job done — until it doesn't. Here's what our customers were dealing with before switching.
